A few weeks ago, Sam recieved a letter telling him that his essay on Americanism: What Freedom Means to Me" had won either first, second, or third place and invited him to an awards banquet where he would recieve a cash prize. He was suprised he had won because it was a class assignment in the fall of last year. We, of course, were pleased and proud.
Out of 500 essasys submitted from 8 local schools, Sam won first place and a $50 check in the 6th grade boys division. But that's not all! They submitted the winning essays to a district wide contest as well with schools all across the valley, from Salmon to Preston. Sam won first place overall and won an additional $75! So he walked away with $125 last night! Isn't that amazing!
The DOWNS
So Henry's friend called me Monday morning as I was getting ready to leave for classes in Rexburg (I almost didn't answer the phone) to tell me that Henry had broken his arm when he fell off his friend's skateboard. "Yeah, right," I thought. "It's probably just a sprain."
No - it was REALLY broken. Bye-bye soccer season....
So that afternoon we went in for surgery. He has two pins in his arm currently. Funny enough, he has pins in the same arm he broke when he was 5 years old, and the same doctor did the surgery Monday as did the surgery all those year ago. Crazy, isn't it?
He'll be in a soft cast until Tuesday next week when he gets his hard cast and can go back to school. Two weeks after that they will cut a window in his cast and pull out the pins. Three weeks after THAT they will remove the cast (mid June).
AND as a bonus - Janie's been complaining about her throat and gagging on her food.
Sometimes, her tonsils are so big they're touching. So we may be going in for ANOTHER surgery after school gets out. Bye-bye family vacation to Oklahoma - we'll be funding the doctors' vacations this summer.
LIFE - it does a body good.

Camille, what the #*U!@)#$$(!@#???? I thought money grew on trees and you could go where ever you wanted, any time you wanted, no matter what!!! This whole life thing didn't get explained to me very well. If we get to go we'll miss you guys!

OUCH!!! I seem to remember a time when Brent's arm looked a lot like that when he was carrying some weights around and tripped on the weight bench and broke his wrist. Nice form Henry. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Just a side note... it's not our family that is falling apart, it's our house. We have termites and a water pipe broke under our slab and we're getting a new roof because of our baseball sized hail storm. To top it off we're supposed to leave in 4 days to pick up Zach. Will we have everything fixed before we leave.... We'll post pics if we do :) Oh, yah, and because I want to be just like Mom, I'm getting my stomach scoped on Monday. Opposition in all things?

Sorry about the break Henry! That picture of your arm before the surgery is nuts. Now you get to have your cast signed as well as your yearbook at school....just trying to see the positive side ;)
